Robert Hollingworth, I Fagiolini and The City Musick take top honours in this month's issue for their 'revelatory' world premiere recording of Orazio Benevoli's Missa Tu es Petrus - possibly intended for performance at St Peter's Basilica in Rome, the work is scored for four choirs and is based on a motet by Palestrina (which is also included on the album). Reviewer Kate Bolton-Porciatti praised the 'multi-hued tapestry of sound' which these forces weave, thanks to the 'clean and transparent' choral textures and the 'controlled, stylish and beautifully integrated' instrumental playing on display.
Recording of the Month
'Recorded here in the round, with a battery of instruments enriching the vocal ensembles, the work engulfs the senses just as it must have done in Benevoli’s day in the echoing spaces of St Peter's.'

Britten: Violin Concerto & Double Concerto
Baiba Skride (violin), ORF Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra, Marin Alsop
