The album The Secret Garden by Jakub Metelka contains fifteen recital pieces in simple song form, thus tying in with his successful, technically less demanding piano cycle Little Virtuoso. The individual compositions in the collection are characterized by Metelka’s unmistakable, tonally anchored melodic style, enriched with many unusual harmonies and colours, which underlines the slightly melancholic and mysterious character of these nocturnal pieces.

A variety of sources were consulted for this new edition. The first print of the score, parts and piano reduction as well as a set of proofs used by pianist Marguerite Long to rehearse the work for the premiere served as the main sources. Ravel’s autograph, which was used as the engraver’s copy for the first print, must be considered a secondary source as Ravel later authorised changes during the proofreading process.

Instrumental Solos
A Winged Brocade is a new lyrical piece for two flutes and piano. The title gives a hint of the imaginative musical world of the piece. With interwoven parts and floating melodies, the piece gives an opportunity to explore gesture, texture, and nuance. There are occasional simple harmonic substitutions alternating with conventional fingerings.

The Lied genre had a decisive influence on Richard Strauss' musical oeuvre: his first and last published works were songs, and few other composers have enjoyed such success with their song settings as Strauss. The Croatian pianist and composer Dejan Lazic has now arranged several of these musical miniatures for violin and piano with virtuosity.

Claude Debussy composed two chamber music works for the clarinet. He wrote his Première Rhapsodie and his Petite Pièce as mandatory pieces for the wind competitions at the Paris Conservatoire. With their lyrical tone colours and focus on cantabile melodies, Debussy's sound ideal is evident in both pieces as if under a burning glass. Both are now available for violin and piano, arranged by pianist and composer Dejan Lazic.

This little violin method was written by the well-known Czech violin teacher Magdaléna Micková for children of around five years old and incorporates her longstanding teaching experience with this age group. The pieces that follow consist of simple melodies that are printed with large child-friendly notes and allow fingering in the major key to be practised in first position.

Claudio Monteverdi’s 1608 opera Arianna is best known for the title character’s lament sung by Isabella Andreini. The interest in this operatic scene now known as the Lamento d’Arianna led to many transcriptions and finally also printed versions and contrafacts being circulated, such as the Marian lament Pianto della Madonna, which is available in this edition.

Antonín Dvorák composed his penultimate and most well-known opera Rusalka in just seven months between April and November 1900. Rusalka is one of the most frequently performed works of the international opera scene.

The vocal score of Henry Purcell's famous opera Dido and Aeneas is based on the Bärenreiter Urtext edition of the full score. As its main source served the Tatton Park manuscript (National Trust), which was produced in the second half of the 18th century by Philip Hayes, who is known for his meticulous copies of Purcell's music. The sources from the Bodleian Library Oxford (Great Britain) and the Wakayama Prefectural Library (Japan) have been re-evaluated for this edition.

Chamber & Orchestral
Study score of Bonds' powerful orchestral work. Composed in 1964 and dedicated to Martin Luther King, Jr. The work is based on the African American spiritual I Want Jesus to Walk with Me. It is based on events and ideas in the civil rights movement from the Montgomery Bus Boycott through the Sixteenth Street Baptist Church bombing that killed four young Black American girls in Birmingham on 15 September 1963.

With his septet, Beethoven created a key chamber music work for larger ensembles. This Urtext edition is based on a meticulous comparison of the autograph, the first edition parts and score as well as a set of parts in the Roudnice Lobkowicz Collection in Prague, which has been used for the first time for a scholarly-critical edition. In particular, the precise evaluation of the autograph has made it possible to correct numerous discrepancies and accurately reproduce Beethoven’s notation.

The “Triple Concerto” has been composed for orchestra and three soloists (harpsichord, flute and violin). This critical Urtext edition is based on the second printing of the “New Bach Edition” (NBA) volume edited by Dietrich Kilian. He examines the complex genesis of the work from Bach’s earlier compositions. Bach’s autograph is lost, but copies by Johann Friedrich Agricola and Johann Gottfried Müthel have been handed down and it is these sources to which the editor refers.
